It's been a while since Diablo IV released its new Season of Slaughter on March 11th. Unlike previous seasons, this new season introduces an innovative new gameplay mode, attracting much attention and anticipation from both new and veteran players even before its arrival.
Meanwhile, the new combat mechanics and upgraded equipment quality keep the difficulty consistently high, making this a truly extraordinary season.
Below are the main updates for the new season, along with some key points summarized from my own leveling and progression experience, including the optimal leveling order from 1 to 60 and the usable features this season offers to maximize efficiency in the shortest amount of time.

1. Update Content
Unlike previous seasons, this new season introduces a brand-new mechanic: Killstreaks. You can increase your leveling speed and gain extra experience and reputation by rapidly defeating large groups of enemies.
A new world event, Grisly Helltide Events, is also introduced. You can use Meaty Offering in Slaughter Shrine to summon enemies.
Furthermore, after completing A Taste of Power questline, you can transform into the villainous Butcher, experiencing a different perspective and entering the new seasonal event-Slaughterhouse. Defeating enemies here will earn you the season's exclusive-Fresh Meat.
If you're a beginner or prefer a more conservative playstyle, I recommend starting with Normal difficulty to quickly familiarize yourself with the game's pace and grasp the season's updates. Knowing the monsters' weaknesses beforehand will allow you to quickly defeat them and earn more rewards later.
2. Necessary Preparations Before Leveling Up
Before starting the seasonal questline, you need to complete Raising Spirits Side Quest. Go to Kyovashad and talking to Guard Boza to start the quest, then head to the nearby soldier training point and click the celebratory emote to complete it.
After starting the seasonal questline, you can go to the lair to hire mercenaries to accompany you. Mercenaries will increase your resistances and provide armor, improving your defense in combat. Remember to utilize Vessel of Hatred expansion features.
Before setting off, remember to open your wardrobe and bring your pet! It will automatically collect materials, Aberrant Cinders, herbs, ores, and gold, which is extremely helpful when you're busy killing monsters using Killstreaks mechanic in the new event and can't attend to other items.
There are three primary ways to obtain a loyal companion in Diablo IV.
The first is by completing the Faithful Companion side quest. This straightforward quest becomes available early on and rewards you with Asheara, a loyal puppy who will follow you into battle and automatically gather crafting materials, gold, and Aberrant Cinders for you.
The second is through the Season Journey. By progressing through the Season Journey chapters-especially the later chapters like Slayer or Champion-you can unlock a unique seasonal commemorative pet. These pets are exclusive to the season and serve as a lasting trophy of your achievements.
The third is that you can directly use Platinum to get one, such as the cat Lily.
3. Utilize Killstreaks to Speed Up Leveling
Killstreaks are the core mechanic of this season's quests, allowing you to gain over 20 times more experience. You don't need to completely kill enemies; simply participating in the kills counts as a Killstreaks, so cooperating with others is a good option.
During Killstreaks, experience gained from Killstreaks is stacked and stored. The Killstreaks bonus lasts for 5 seconds; if you don't kill more enemies within those 5 seconds, the bonus stack ends, and the previously gained experience multiplied by the corresponding multiplier becomes your final reward.
However, if you die during Killstreaks, all rewards are reset to zero. Therefore, it's essential to bring Diablo 4 Items that increase defense and attack speed before starting. Understanding Killstreaks bonus mechanism allows you to effectively utilize it to gain more experience and rewards, thus accelerating your leveling process.
4. More Efficient Leveling
In this season, the new world event, Grisly Helltide Events, works perfectly with Killstreaks System. This is a place where you can kill monsters, level up, and acquire equipment, such as in Aberrant Cinders. Here, you cannot kill all enemies at once.
Helltide has a large number of enemies that allow you to continuously refresh your Killstreaks time and stack Killstreaks rewards, allowing you to quickly level up from level 1 to 60.
The red markers on the map indicate the areas where Helltide is located, and they refresh every hour. In Helltide, you'll also find Tortured Gift of Mystery Chests, which offer significant experience boosts and can even upgrade your gear.
You'll need 75 Aberrant Cinders to open these chests. Furthermore, it's best to allow some time to open these chests before each Helltide ends.
Remember, dying in Helltide will instantly forfeit half of your Aberrant Cinders! So, ensure your defense is sufficient to safely return from Helltide laden with loot.
The above is the fastest and most efficient step-by-step guide to quickly level up from level 1 to advanced in Season 12. Not only that, it also lays a solid foundation for you to unlock high-difficulty dungeons after you have leveled up.
