The focus of player dissatisfaction is primarily on the rework of Mythic Uniques, so-called Mythic Uniques 3.0. Blizzard officially stated that its goal was to break the monopoly of a few best gear sets, increase character build diversity, and promote the long-term healthy development of the game.

However, in reality, these changes represent a huge step backward for players. Season of Death Awakening system allows any Unique item to drop as a more powerful Mythic version, but it also introduces excessive randomness. Former top-tier gear, such as The Grandfather and Heir of Perdition, has been significantly weakened, often rendering it unusable.

In my opinion, this system effectively demythified these once-top-tier items, turning them into generic uniques with slightly improved stats.

Crafting System

The new crafting system further exacerbates player frustration. Upgrading a Unique to Mythic using Horadric Cube is largely a gamble, often rewarding a random item in the same slot rather than the one you put in.

Players find this process misleading, as the upgrade function feels more like a slot machine, entirely based on luck rather than a deterministic crafting process. Worse still, players can only equip one crafted Mythic item, which many believe completely contradicts the original intent of Diablo 4 system.

This creates a paradox: players might spend hundreds of hours collecting Resplendent Sparks to craft Mythics needed for their builds, only to find they can't use them simultaneously because they're marked as Crafted. This forces players to rely on extremely rare natural drops to unlock these restrictions.

New Drop System

When you want to farm gear, you find that the drop rate has decreased again in Season 14, further exacerbating the already difficult situation for players. One player mentioned farming lair bosses 1400 times and only getting 50 Mythics, none of which were useful for his build.

That means he wasted all that time and effort. I believe that without some special methods, ordinary players simply cannot obtain their desired gear. It's incredibly frustrating to work so hard only to get something even worse than before.

If you actually get Diablo 4 items you want through this system, I think you should just go buy a lottery ticket; don't waste your time here.

Besides, the core content of Diablo 4 Season of Death Awakening is also very disappointing. It lacks innovation and is full of rehashed elements. Season 14 didn't introduce many new mechanics or items that could change character builds; instead, it brought back Realmwalker mechanic, which was heavily criticized in Season 6.

To this, I want to say to Diablo 4 studio: if you can't create something new, don't create it at all. What's the point of bringing back old stuff? Are you trying to pad out the content because you know you have too little?

Core Endgame Loop

For some reason, the endgame loop in Season 14 is incredibly complex, yet the rewards are minimal. You first need to farm Helltide to complete Pandemonium Rupture, summon Realmwalker to open the portal to Deathtoll Chamber, then farm Chamber for Diablo 4 Superior Lair Keys, and finally defeat the new boss for a chest.

All of this is just to get a version of some materials that are worse than what we had before. I think this loop is completely pointless; you spend time and effort finally defeating the boss, only to find it's no different from not fighting at all.

This season failed to deliver exciting new content, instead providing players with a terrible gaming experience. Ultimately, the real problem with Diablo 4 Season 14 lies in its worrying design philosophy. Blizzard's changes feel like a return to the frustrating loot system of the past, where power is tied to layers of randomness, completely ignoring the player's time.

According to rumors, the development team for Season 14 originally designed a system to give players more choices. However, they panicked because players had a great time in Season 13 and successfully completed character creation. So, they replaced it with a multi-level slot machine-like system, the sole purpose of which is to artificially extend players' playtime.
