Path of Exile 2 Patch 0.3.1 Update | All Maps Have Bosses, Orb Of Alchemy Rework & Major Atlas Changes

Good news for fans of Path of Exile 2! The game developer announced that some content prepared for the next league of Path of Exile 2 will be available for players to experience in advance after this 0.3.1 update. While Path of Exile 2's The Third Edict is a step closer to becoming a superb sequel, it's still not perfect and will require time to refine.

This 0.3.1 update addresses several popular concerns raised online and in the community, including faster map clearing and the removal of tower challenges.

Path of Exile 2 developers explained that they had originally planned to introduce some major improvements in Path of Exile 2 0.4.0, but player feedback after the release of 0.3.0 led them to realize that they might need to improve some game mechanics in 0.3.1 and then save these improvements for 0.4.0,so that they can test these contents earlier.

Because the release date was set long ago, the game developers weren't able to roll out all the planned changes before Third Edict's release. However, instead of waiting until December, they've decided to roll out some of them now.

Path of Exile 2 Patch 0.3.1 Update | All Maps Have Bosses, Orb of Alchemy Rework & Major Atlas Changes

Changes To Atlas

First, towers on Atlas map no longer require spread modifiers. The content before the adjustment was what players had protested against before, because it was really a boring and tedious task with no rewards, which was simply a thankless task.

Tablets now have a set number of charges, which are consumed when you spend them on Waystones. Depending on the number of currently activated modifiers, up to three tablets can be used on a map.

Towers aren't completely gone; you can run them to increase Atlas visibility, and you'll earn a tablet for each completed map.

Furthermore, perhaps the developers have also acknowledged players' complaints about the map's excessive complexity, leading to extremely long completion times.

With the adjustments, the 15 largest areas have been reduced in size, and the size of monster swarms at early levels has been reduced by 30%, significantly reducing player exploration time. Just like in PoE 1, the more open layout reduces swarm density, preventing you from being overly mobbed.

However, players who crave a challenge don't need to worry about the game becoming less challenging. Monster density gradually increases as you progress, and by the time you reach the tier 15 map, it's back to the league that the league should be.

All Endgame Maps Have Boss Fights

In previous versions, players often had to chase minimap icons around to find rare bosses, which was quite boring and lacked a good gaming experience.

The game developers have taken note of this, and this time, all endgame maps have bosses. This means you no longer have to keep chasing those rare bosses for POE 2 Currency or other items. Now, there are plenty of bosses to choose from across the map.

Maps that previously had bosses now have stronger boss variants to defeat in addition to the original bosses. These variants provide the rewards and map level upgrades you'd expect.

Now, each map will randomly generate one to three additional features, such as Breach, Delirium, Ritual, Expedition, Shrines, Strongboxes, Essences, Wisps, Rogue Exiles, and Summoning Circles.

So how does it interact with the map itself or any tablet modifiers you're using? The truth is, these new features are added at the last minute and don't duplicate features you already have.

For example, if your mod already has an Expedition, the map will generate with a different feature instead of Expedition. Your primary feature icon has been removed from Atlas overlay, meaning you'll get new features with each map you generate.

Orb Of Alchemy Changes

Once a beloved currency among crafters in POE 2, Orb of Alchemy became less useful after the introduction of tiered currency options in The Third Edict.

The developers have made timely adjustments to Orbs of Alchemy, allowing them to be used on both magic and basic items. Note that when used on magic items, they upgrade to rare items, replacing the existing modifiers with four new, randomly selected modifiers.

Other Minor Adjustments

In addition to the major changes mentioned above, the developers have also made some minor adjustments. Citadels now spawn 66% more frequently, the impact of ground-based modifiers like Chill, Ignite, and Shock has been significantly reduced, and the passive of Atlas Tree has been changed.

Key bonus skills gained from boss areas on the map, such as Crystal Realm's Essence bonus, now have greater impact in areas with significant and powerful combat. Passive abilities that affect your ability to fight against map bosses also become extremely effective against lower-level variants.

Path of Exile 2 patch 0.3.1 has been released since Monday, September 29th. You can read the changes listed above or find more details provided by the game developer to learn about the maps and additional modifiers included.

This update and changes demonstrate the game developer's respect for players and their commitment to continuous improvement.
