After six years of polishing, the new pure PC game Chrono Odyssey recently opened its beta test to MMO enthusiasts around the world. This MMO that combines Korean aesthetics and Souls game combat difficulty has attracted the attention of many players.
But surprisingly, during the test, Chrono Odyssey did not receive the approval of most of the testers. Even those players who still have expectations for this game only commented that it still needs a long time of optimization and polishing. So what is the performance of Chrono Odyssey’s test that led to such a review?
Story
The background of this game is set in the Middle Ages, which was invaded by mystery. The technological form of the enemies in the game forms a sharp contrast with the magic-side combat actions of the players. But you can understand it as the invasion of Azeroth by Burning Legion. At present, there seems to be not much novelty.
Gameplay
In terms of gameplay, Chrono Odyssey as a whole seems to be quite “conventional”. It basically follows the mature MMO experience accumulated by games such as Vindictus, Black Desert Online, and New World: Aeternum, and has not made too many breakthrough innovations in system design.
However, in recent years, many Korean PC games have failed in their first release because of excessive pursuit of innovation. Chrono Odyssey’s steady and steady design approach is reliable. As long as the content is continuously polished and the values are reasonably adjusted in subsequent development, this game still has great potential and is worth looking forward to.
Classes
During the beta test stage, the game opened three classes: Showman, Berserker, and Ranger. Each class has three weapons to choose from, and can carry two of them in battle and perform combos by switching weapons. In the latter stage, you can gradually unlock the ultimate skills of your class and create your own builds.
It is worth mentioning that each set of weapons has independent talent points, and players need to use the weapon to continuously kill monsters to improve their proficiency and unlock powerful ultimate skills.
In addition, life skills such as drinking medicine, gathering, and crafting also have proficiency settings. The higher the proficiency, the more efficient you are and the more gold you earn. This is very similar to Black Desert Online. Anyway, players have to invest a lot of time, and players who pursue leisure can basically give up.
Equipment
Chrono Odyssey’s equipment system is somewhat similar to Diablo 3. Equipment consists of basic attributes, additional gem slots, random attributes and affixes. Some set equipment will also have unique affixes and set bonuses.
Therefore, to create a complete set of top-level equipment, you either have to repeatedly farm dungeons and rely on luck to drop. Or you have to have a large amount of Chrono Odyssey gold and find top craft master to help you make it.
After you have collected a complete set of equipment, there is also enhancement. In order to fully enhance the weapon, besides various materials, you also need to kill some specific elite monsters to get specific enhancement props.
Dungeons And Battles
However, unlike traditional MMO online games, the dungeon design of Chrono Odyssey is quite interesting. It is not limited to multiplayer dungeons. As long as the player’s weapon proficiency meets the standard, the equipment is luxurious enough, or the operation and reaction are good enough, he can challenge all dungeons in the beta test stage alone and earn a lot of Chrono Odyssey gold and equipment.
However, although this design that allows players to challenge alone is a major feature, it also brings another problem: if you are not proficient in operation and the equipment level is poor, even the small boss in the prologue may make you angry and smash the controller directly.
In addition, the damage of Chrono Odyssey’s wild monsters and elite monsters is also very terrifying, and there are many cases of being bitten to death by wild wolves on the roadside.
Disadvantages
Chrono Odyssey also exposed some problems in the testing stage. The game lacks the necessary guidance for novices. Many players do not know that the boss will enter a state of stiffness after being attacked multiple times even if they defeat the prologue boss.
The game map is complex and crisscrossed, with many hidden caves and ruins, but lacks detailed mini-maps and path-finding signs, making it difficult for players to find the mission location even if they follow the instructions on the large map.
In addition, the design of some puzzle missions is too complicated, and it is almost impossible to complete them without consulting the guide, which obviously needs further improvement.
The most incomprehensible thing is that there are not only very few teleportation points in the game, but you have to run to a specific location to use them. What’s even more outrageous is that you have to stay still and load for a full 10 seconds. This design, which is not only inconvenient but also seriously affects the experience, has become one of the most complained about by players.
In contrast, Chrono Odyssey’s problems in picture optimization are the easiest to solve.
The developer once expressed the hope to make Chrono Odyssey a high-quality work with a buyout system and a single-player PVE experience as the core, but whether it is the completeness of the content or the maturity of the game experience, Chrono Odyssey still has a lot of room for improvement.
